The Learning to Live, Learning to Love curriculum offers skills and tools to develop healthy relationships in every area of life. Classes that are offered are: Phase I, Phase II and Teen Classes.
These classes are designed to be a safe and friendly environment for men and women and teens and meet separately. Classes usually meet 3 hours weekly for 30 weeks, totaling 90 hours of instruction. Each person is treated with respect and dignity. Facilitators are not teachers, nor counselors. Facilitators lead and guide students through the curriculum through by using videos, workbook handouts, group discussion, and visual aides. PHASE I CLASS OUTLINE: The first class is an overview of class expectations and content. Topics covered include: What abuse really is and its effects on everyone. Denial, emotions, “dirty fighting”, anger, and tools to resolving conflict. The course then discusses why we do what we do; “life commandments”, “arrested development”, reactive lifestyles, and expectations for the different seasons of life for from multiple family backgrounds. From there, the course covers relationships; shame verses guilt, forgiveness, and communication. The last set of weeks pulls everything together by showing positive models for love, friendship, relationships & intimacy in a healthy family.
PHASE II CLASS Objectives: An 18 month small group class configuration that continues in depth at each of the areas covered in the Phase I material. However, discussion time and personal reflection drive deeper to uncover sources of pain, lies we believe that deceive us and hold us in denial. The classroom environment develops relationships and form the accountability necessary to facilitate the life changes we so desperately desire.
